The children all looked fantastic today wearing rainbow colours from head to toe. We proudly supported the 30th anniversary of Queenscourt Hospice and joined in with their ‘We can wear a rainbow’ fundraiser. We were also fortunate to have a visit from Queenie, their mascot. Thank you to all your support, we raised a brilliant £276.

A thank you from the NSPCC
Jo from the NSPCC came to school to thank us for raising £605.60 from our wear green day and our obstacle course. We know the money we raised will help fund 121 phone calls to Childline, so we feel very proud to have helped 121 children.
On Monday 18th November, School Council organised their obstacle course and the whole school joined in. All School Council members helped out on the day and everyone had lots of fun. We all wore green clothes and the total raised so far is a fantastic £574!
NSPCC Speak Out Stay Safe
We are currently busy working on organising a fundraising event to support the NSPCC. We recently had an assembly where we met Buddy, their mascot. We were told about Childline and the number to ring if we ever needed to, 0800 1111. Francesca and Evie, our Chair and Vice Chair were involved in the assembly explaining our fundraising event.
On Monday 18th November, we are having a wear green day and a sponsored obstacle course, which we have designed.

Don't hurt your head
Wear a helmet instead!
School Council are launching a helmet safety campaign.
This year as a School Council we were fortunate enough to be able to do a First Aid course and we were shocked and inspired by the statistics given to us. Lancashire has the 2nd highest fatalities and injuries for children not wearing a helmet when scooting or cycling, London being the highest.
We are launching it now to help children stay safe over the Summer holidays and make parents more aware.
We have worked hard on our campaign and thought of lots of slogans to help remind the children to wear their helmets. We have made posters including facts and figures, which are also displayed around school.
Nationally, one quarter of cyclists killed are children. Wearing a helmet reduces risk of head injury by 45%, with a 33% reduced risk of brain injury.
Helmets need to fit properly and we have included some images and web links to help you.
For further information visit the following:
www.cycle-smartfoundation.org
It is also important that your child's helmet fits correctly, so we have included some information and images to help you.
Ensure the helmet is the correct size. It should fit snugly and be comfortable to wear. When the child shakes or nods their head the helmet should remain secure. The helmet rim should sit on the forehead, just above the eyebrows. The helmet should NOT be tilted back leaving the forehead exposed or tipped so far forward it covers the eyes and obstructs the child's ability to see. The straps must not be twisted and there should be no slack in them. Most helmet straps form a 'V' shape just under the ear lobe. Ensure the helmet does not affect the child's ability to hear. Listening is an important part of cycling safety.

TCP has a successful School Council. Children elect candidates from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 by secret ballot. Successful candidates then hold the office of Councillor for one year.
The School Council meets each Wednesday and keeps the children informed about issues they have been discussing on a regular basis.
Over the last few years the School Council have been introducing healthy snacks at break time; have adopted a pet snow leopard; bought new playground equipment; introduced ways of recognising good lunchtime behaviour; raised money for charity; supported the Christmas Fair and have also organised an infamous yearly talent show.
All the pupils get a say on what we do. They put suggestions in our suggestion box. We then either discuss their ideas or invite them to our meeting. Each year we organise fundraising events to help us achieve our goals.
School Council organised this year’s Red Nose Day events. We all came to school wearing red and donated a £1. We had a fantastic time doing our TCP Danceathon.
Hesketh Bank Community Centre
School Council had a visit today from Mr Hall who is asking for our support in building a new Community Centre in our village. We were able to offer our views and opinions as well as asking lots of questions. We will complete a survey to help them with their National Lottery bid.
School Council had the fantastic opportunity to learn basic First Aid provided by Centaur Training Services. The course covered basic first aid skills and procedures including CPR, the recovery position, seizures, bleeding and how to use a defibrillator. They were also taught what to do if an emergency arises and what to expect if they rang 999. They were taught to remember DRABCD.
All the children gained the confidence to deal with an emergency and the course provided them all with an invaluable life skill.
School Council has the X Factor!
TCP were fortunate to have a visit from Georgia Burgess who was on the X Factor this year. School Council were very lucky as we got the opportunity to meet and greet her and we helped her set up her equipment spending the whole morning with her. She was lovely and a great singer.

We have supported Marie Curie once again, during March we sold their special daffodils and raised a fantastic £101. Thank you to everyone who brought a daffodil.
Marie Curie Coffee Afternoon
We were very proud to be able to donate the £395 we raised at our Coffee Afternoon to Danielle from Marie Curie in person. She came to meet us and thank us personally for helping to make a difference to lots of people. She kindly spoke to the whole school in assembly.
Please click on the Marie Curie logo below to connect to Marie Curie North West where TCP is thanked for their donation.
As part of our preparation for our Coffee Afternoon, each class took part in TCP's Bake Off. Parents, grandparents and aunties kindly came into school to bake with the children.
Thank you to everybody who came to our Coffee Afternoon and helped make it a great success. Thank you to everybody who kindly donated cakes, it is very much appreciated. There was a great community spirit and everyone enjoyed tea, cake and a chat.
A special thanks to Jessica and her auntie for making a fabulous cake for our raffle, which helped us to raise even more money for our charity.
TCP's Bake Off was judged very seriously by School Council's Chair and Vice Chair. they deliberated and enjoyed tasting all the cakes. They chose the following classes as 'Star Bakers'.
Viola and Violins with their yummy Rice Crispie cakes
Trombones with their fantastic Gingerbread
Xylophones with their delicious Blueberry Muffins.
The final total raised was a fantastic £395!
A BIG thank you!
School Council have provided new playground equipment for all children to play with at break and lunch times. Last year we asked the children what types of activities and equipment they would like to have to improve their lunchtimes. We used money raised last year from the Anti Bullying Wear Blue Mufti day and Sainsbury's Sports Vouchers to buy the new equipment. This is enabling children to be more active at playtimes and lunchtimes too.
Here are a few photographs showing the children enjoying playing with the equipment we have proudly provided.

At TCP, we want to make sure you are all safe. Mr Upton asked School Council to design a slogan and a poster to encourage children to always wear a helmet when they ride their bikes. Every class will display the poster and we hope our slogan will help remind children to wear their helmets and keep safe! Well done to Ruby, who came up with our brilliant slogan.

Reindeer food and Snowman soup
We were very busy making Reindeer food and Snowman soup to sell at our Christmas Fayre.
We enjoyed selling this on our stall and we made £90.
We all enjoyed a fantastic day on Friday 24th March. We raised over £230 just for wearing red clothes to school. We sold 239 red noses and raised a further £239.
We organised a joke writing competition and enjoyed lots of jokes being told in assembly. Mr Upton and 2 School Council members judged and chose the winning jokes. The winners each won a joke book.
We are proud of the money we raised for Comic Relief and the difference our money can make to lots of people's lives.
Thank you to everybody who bought a red nose and made a donation.
We are also currently working on improving children's experiences at lunchtimes. We are hoping to provide some new playground equipment and offer some new and exciting lunchtime clubs. We are liaising with the welfare staff and have carried out a pupil questionnaire to find out what children like, dislike and want they would like to have at lunchtimes.
School Council organised another excellent Talent Show.
TCP's Got Talent 2017 was a big success, with lots of KS2 children being brave and performing their excellent talents from dancing, singing, jokes to drumming.
This years winners were a dance crew of Year 6 girls, performing to Little Mix's DNA, well done girls. In 2nd place was Ava and Sarah performing on their brass instruments. In 3rd place was Isabelle dancing solo. Well done to our 2 brilliant presenters and our guest judges 'Little Mix!'.
Thank you to all parents and grandparents who came to support the children.
