computing
A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and at Tarleton Community Primary we endeavour to equip our children with the skills they will need for a the future workplace. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology.
At Tarleton Community Primary we immerse the children in the use of Computing as much as possible through the use of our iPads and Computing Suite. These high quality resources allow for robust cross-curricular links and we have found that their use elicits enthusiasm and engagement with learning from the children.

Curriculum
Our Computing lessons in school are delivered through the Purple Mash scheme of work. The units build up every year and e.g. demonstrate how to stay safe and behave appropriately online in an age-appropriate way. As a school we also take part in Safer Internet Day and with technology increasingly permeating all areas of our daily lives, through smart phones, tablets and televisions, staying safe whilst online is more important than ever.

Google Classroom
As a school, we are now subscribed to Google Classroom! In the event of any further Covid-19 lock downs and to help our learning in any case, we have this virtual learning platform to make learning easier and more engaging. Your child will come home with a username and password for Google Classroom which they will already have trialed in school. Your child's teacher will have set work under the "Classwork" tab on their class page. Please look at Google Classroom with your child and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact your child's class teacher.

Safer Schools App
Whether you’re a mum, dad, carer, auntie, uncle, granny or grandpa, it’s important for you to understand what children are doing online, so you can help make them safer.
We are delighted to invite you to download our new ‘Safer Schools’ App’ provided by our school insurance provider Zurich Municipal.

e-Safety Ambassadors & e-Safety Committee
We are looking to elect e-Safety Ambassadors in school stay tuned!
These are the children who anyone can approach with an e-Safety issue and they will either give the answer or redirect the query to the right person. They will be helping Mr Glaister update information around school and with assemblies throughout the year.
To ensure that e-Safety works for our children in all areas of their lives we have created an e-Safety Committee made up of teachers, teaching assistants, governors, parents and children to discuss termly what we feel are the most pressing e-Safety concerns for all stakeholders in our school community.
UKS2 "Don't Be Phoney"
As part of our RE and PSHE Day, UKS2 were visited by two police officers. In our session we were told about the most common crimes the police see children of our age involved in and how to stay out of trouble. In addition, PC Dave went through e-safety with us and linked it back to malicious communications in particular. We also discussed information sharing online and how to ensure our online avatars didn't give away too much about us.

Social networking:
Although there are many benefits to social networking, it can also be dangerous, as children are not always aware who they are talking to. Social networking sites do have age restrictions. As a school we use Facebook to share information with parents. Social networking sites have safety advice and have a report button, which should be used to report inappropriate use.
