Violins

Welcome to the Violins class! We are a class of 28 Reception children who enjoy learning through their play!
Our teacher is Miss Eaves and we are lucky to be supported throughout the week by Miss Blundell and Mrs Brown.

Our P.E lessons are on a Friday so we need to come to school in our P.E kit on these days.

We try to read a couple of pages of our books every night so that we can become 'Super Readers!'. Our books get changed on a Monday. Please make sure that books are in bags every day.

We have such an exciting year ahead and we look forward to learning lots of new things!

The start of our school journey in Reception

Autumn 1 - Me and My Community

The first Topic we looked at was all about us and where we live. We began this topic by painting a self portrait and then we thought about who lives with us and what our house looks like. We then looked at our Community. We used google maps to look at all of the different places and people that might help us!

Autumn 2 - Seasons and Celebrations

This half term we are going to look at changes that happen in Autumn and Winter. We will be looking at Halloween, Bonfire Night, Remembrance day, Diwali and Christmas.

Remembrance Day

On Remembrance Day we think about all of the soldiers who have fought in wars to help to keep us safe. The children worked together to create their own wreath.

Anti-Bullying Week

The children came into school wearing Odd Socks. The children began to celebrate this by discussing what make us all unique!

Diwali

The children listened to the story Dipal's Diwali and then made their own Diwali lamp.

Christmas

Violins had a great time at the Christmas party. We had a special visit from Father Christmas! We loved playing pass the parcel and corners. We went back into class and enjoyed our party food!

Spring 1 - The Big Freeze

This half term in Violins we are focusing on Winter. We will be looking at the changes that happen in Winter, why animals hibernate and Winter in the Arctic.

Dodgeball Festival

One Snowy Day! ⛄

We were all so excited to come into school, because it has been snowing!

Lots of us brought our wellies so we all spent the morning exploring the snow. We made snowballs to throw at Miss Eaves, Miss Blundell and even Mr Upton. Some of us made a snow angel. We had lots of fun!

Looking after the animals during Winter

The children made their own animal feeders to hang outside. Let's see which animals come!

PE

Today the children began to learn how to balance, climb, slide and jump off equipment. It was lots of fun!

Chinese New Year

We looked at China on the map and discussed how we could get there. We looked into how people prepare for the New Year and then how they celebrate New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. We made our own Lantern, used chop sticks and watched Dragons dance.

Spring 2 - New Life

This half term in Violins we are focusing on all of the changes that happen in Spring. We will look closely at a range of life cycles, grow our own beans, explore Mini beasts and look at the celebration of Easter.

We have also got something very exciting coming into our classroom!

The life cycle of a Daffodil

We discussed the different parts of a Daffodil and what they need to grow. We made actions up for each part of the life cycle. We then became artists and looked closely at what a Daffodil looks like. We explored the natural world around us, making observations and drawing pictures. We can now understand some important processes and changes in the natural world around us, including the season of Spring.

The life cycle of a chicken

Today we have received eggs from the farm. We are going to watch them hatch and learn how to care for them. When they get bigger they are going to go back to the farm.

Stay and Play

It was lovely to see the children showing their parents around the classroom. I hope it gave you an opportunity to come into our setting and be involved with your children's learning by taking part in lots of activities. Take a look at what we got up to.

World Book Day

The children looked fantastic! We started the day with an assembly led by The Reading Ambassadors and learned that we are going to be taking part in lots of activities linked to The Oak Tree by Julia Donaldson.

Summer 1 - Rainforests

This half term in Violins we are focusing on animals that live in the rainforest, what grows in the rainforest and where in the world are rainforests and jungles.
